Advocacy

Improving Schools at the Site, District and State Level.

The Advocacy work of the Alliance For Education is achieved by working with the principals at each school, the Superintendent of the district, the locally elected school board in each parish and with the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).

Local school board meeting agendas are reviewed each month by the Alliance, and staff and Board members attend as needed to address issues of concern.  Listed below are the standard meeting dates for local school board meetings in North Louisiana:

Bienville Parish School Board (Meets 1st Thursday at 6:00 p.m.)

Bossier Parish School Board (Meets 1st Thursday at 6:00 p.m.)

Caddo Parish School Board (Meets 3rd Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.)

Claiborne Parish School Board (Meets 2nd Thursday at 6:00 p.m.)

DeSoto Parish School Board (Meets 1st Thursday at 6:00 p.m.)

Red River Parish School Board (Meets 3rd Monday at 6:30 p.m.)

Webster Parish School Board (Meets 2nd & 4th Mondays at 6:00 p.m.)

BESE meeting agendas are reviewed each month by the Alliance and staff and Board members attend the meetings in Baton Rouge to address issues of concern and represent our region as needed.  BESE committee meetings typically take place on Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday during BESE week with the full BESE Board meeting taking place on Thursday of BESE week at 10:00 a.m.  The BESE schedule does vary from month-to-month but is generally set around the full Board meeting the 3rd Thursday at 10:00 a.m.  BESE does not meet during the months of April, July, November or December except as might be called by special order of the BESE President.
